How to Overcome Overwhelm

Emotional overwhelm is a feeling of intense emotion making it difficult to manage everyday tasks. It can affect your ability to think and act and leave you feelings stuck. Overwhelm is often caused by stress, difficult or traumatic experiences, relationship or professional issues.

Signs you may be emotionally overwhelmed include:

  • Having a disproportionate reactions to normally insignificant things.
  • Feeling ill or tired without knowing why.
  • Having trouble focusing or finishing simple tasks.
  • FInding yourself withdrawing the people you care about.

Ultimately, overwhelm is often about feeling like you don’t have enough time in a day to do the things you’ve committed to. The best way to get a handle on this is to learn to be selective about what you get involved with. Choose only things that light up your passion, and make sure to consider the time commitment involved.
